‘Dancing With the Stars’ Awards Its 24th Mirrorball Trophy

By JD Knapp

One couple just danced their way to victory.

After a season full of shocking send-homes, “Dancing With the Stars” awarded its mirrorball trophy to winner Rashad Jennings and his partner Emma Slater Tuesday night. They beat fellow finalists David Ross and Lindsay Arnold, and Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy in order to win Season 24 of the ABC staple.

Jennings joins a line of NFL players who have won the dancing competition, including Donald Driver, Hines Ward, and Emmitt Smith. It was the first win for pro dancer Emma Slater. Had Ross won, he would’ve been the first MLB player to take the title.

Kordei’s Fifth Harmony bandmates Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui were all in the audience for the live finale and visibly disappointed by the results. Kordei’s third place finish matched her result on “The X-Factor.”

The finale had special appearances from past eliminated contestants — including the controversially cut short Simone Biles and Heather Morris. In addition to crowning a winner, all three finalists also performed fusion dances that combined two of the styles they learned throughout the ten-week competition.

Musical guests included TLC, Lady Antebellum, Hailee Steinfeld, and One Republic.

“Dancing With the Stars” will return for Season 25 this September on ABC.

Sister Wives Star Maddie Brown Brush Welcomes Baby Boy

By Brittany King

Baby Brush is officially here!

Sister Wives star Maddie Brown Brush gave birth to a healthy baby boy — named Axel James Brush — PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.

Axel was born at 12:13 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, his exact due date. He clocked in at 8 lbs., 8 oz. and is 21-inches long.

The family’s little bundle of joy was born after 72 hours of labor — including 12 hours of hard labor and four hours of pushing.

“We’re feeling both excited and exhausted at the same time,” the couple tells PEOPLE. “We’re looking forward to having a family. Now that he’s here we excited to grow our family a little bit more and spread our love even more.”

Maddie’s parents Kody and Janelle Brown are also excited about becoming first-time grandparents.

“I think being grandparents hasn’t sunk in yet,” they tell PEOPLE. “It’s so fun. I can’t believe how much we love this baby already.”

As for the rest of the Brown family — which includes four wives total and 18 children — Kody and Janelle admit that Axel has a large extended family that is waiting to meet him.

“The whole family is excited. In fact the biggest trick will be giving Maddie her rest because there’s going to be this long line of parents and siblings that will be continuously wanting to hold the baby.”

In November, the couple happily announced the pregnancy exclusively with PEOPLE.

“We are both really excited and anxious,” Maddie, 21, said at the time. “I think every soon-to-be parent is anxious, but we have so much support from both sides of our family.”

“I think I’ll be the disciplinarian parent just because Caleb already has such a soft spot for the baby,” she added. “He already has so much love for the baby.”

In January, Maddie announced they were expecting a son, sharing a photo on Instagram featuring the duo kissing while surrounded by blue balloons.

“Little baby boy Brush! We can’t wait to meet you!!” she captioned the image.

Bachelor in Paradise’s Jade and Tanner Tolbert Are Expecting a Baby Girl!

By Christina Dugan

As they prepare to welcome their first baby into the world, PEOPLE is exclusively following Bachelor Nation’s Jade and Tanner Tolbert’s exciting journey to parenthood.

Before finding out the sex of their first child, Tanner Tolbert — wearing a baby-blue shirt in hopes that it might be a boy — pitched a wild guess to his wife Jade (Roper) Tolbert: “I think it’s a girl.”

Well, Daddy knows best. It’s a girl!

“I’m hoping for a boy,” Tanner, 30, told PEOPLE before finding out the sex. “Not that I don’t want a girl, I actually want one of each. It’s just, I’m going to make her keep trying until we have a boy, so I’d like to get it out of the way sooner.”

“He thinks I’m going to have four children if the first three are girls, but I think he’s wrong on that,” added Jade, 30.

The duo, who tied the knot in a televised ceremony that aired on Valentine’s Day last year, revealed that they had been talking about starting a family from the get go.

“Two days after my missed period, I took the test,” Jade previously told PEOPLE. “I just knew it. Tanner wanted to be there. He was like, ‘Don’t take it without me.’ One morning we woke up and I took the test and we watched it on the counter and it turned from not pregnant to pregnant. I knew it, but it was like, ‘Holy cow, it’s happening.’ ”

The couple announced their pregnancy in March with a series of adorable photos.

“We’re crazy grateful to finally announce a little secret we’ve been keeping,” Jade revealed via Twitter last month. “We’re absolutely head over heels in love already!”

“Our parents are divorced, so there’s four packages. I’m going to send [one] to each one of our parents so they can open the package and find out if it’s a boy or a girl,” says Jade. “I kind of wanted to surprise them in that way.”

And boy (er, girl), were they surprised!

Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte visits McGuire veterans hospital

By Ned Oliver (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Growing up with cerebral palsy, RJ Mitte spent a lot of time in the hospital as a kid.

So when the “Breaking Bad” actor passed through Richmond this weekend, he said it felt natural for him to schedule a visit with patients at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center.

“It gets lonely and people want to talk, people want to share,” Mitte said. “Even though they see their same people every day — they see their friends, but it’s not like a new face.

“And in the world, we have new faces. We meet new people, and this is a way for people to kind of say hello to a new face and share a story and talk.”

And talk he did. He spent the better part of Sunday afternoon visiting with patients, prompting one nurse to remark how unusual it is for an actor or dignitary to come by the hospital without rushing through on a tight schedule.

Mitte played Walter White Jr. on the critically acclaimed “Breaking Bad,” which ran five seasons on AMC from 2009 through 2013 and was created and produced by Chesterfield County native Vince Gilligan.

That Richmond-area connection didn’t figure into Mitte’s visit. Instead, he said he was on his way to Washington, D.C., for charity and foundation work and decided to stop in Richmond to make an appearance at Kabana Rooftop downtown to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

At the veterans hospital, Mitte primarily was met by an older crowd that may not have been dedicated “Breaking Bad” fans, but clearly enjoyed the chance to talk to a friendly visitor.

Dipping in and out of hospital rooms, topics ranged from books to bills to vacations and medical problems.

Vashaun Perry, a National Guardsman from Yale, a small community in Sussex County, promised to check out the show as Mitte began making his way toward the door.

“It’s kind of my claim to fame,” Mitte said.

“I think I’ve seen some previews,” Perry said.

Johnnie Genske, who serves in the Air Force, said he watched the first episode of the series in preparation for the visit.

“It hooked me,” he said.

Mitte left him with three autographed pictures, happy to introduce the show to a new fan.

“For me, I’m here to connect with patients,” he said. “I want to hear from them. I’m not here just to talk about myself.”
